We are a Town of Wallkill public transportation service open to all riders within the Town. Dial-A-Bus is a demand response system servicing as many riders as possible during any given hour. All service is by reservation only and must be called into our office in advance. Safety is given top priority on all fronts.
All transportation must originate within the Town of Wallkill. We can transport you to any location within the Town. You may also be taken into the City of Middletown but you must return from the same location and on the same day.
Our buses run from 4:15AM through 8:15PM, Monday through Friday and 8:00AM through 3:00PM on Saturday.
Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. If your call is not answered, leave a message on the voicemail and someone will return your call. The office is closed on weekends and holidays. Messages for canceling a ride may be left on the voicemail at any time.
The one-way fare for a ride on the Dial-A-Bus is $3.00 for the general public. If you are a senior citizen (at least age 60) or handicapped/disabled the fare is $1.00. For anyone carrying an ADA Card or Medicare Card the fee is $1.00. If you would like more information about obtaining an ADA Card, please call the office. Children up to and including age 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Children age 4 and under are free and must be in a child safety seat.
Reservations can be called in or entered online at www.townofwallkill.com (then click on the "Transportation" button) at any time. All rides are first come, first served and as the schedule allows, so have a 2nd choice ready if your 1st choice is not available. A reservation is occasionally available the same day of your call/online reservation but it is recommended you reserve a ride several days ahead of time to assure a place with our service. Reservations for Monday must be made by 4:30PM Friday. In the case of a Monday holiday, reservations for Tuesday must be made by the previous Friday. You may also call after or before office hours and leave a message on our 24-hour voicemail. Make certain you leave your name, phone number, and a brief message. Online reservations can be sent at any time 24/7. We will return your call or answer email later that day or the next business day. However if your ride is for the next business day, you might not receive a ride since we will not be in the office to schedule it.
We want you to have a positive experience with the Dial-A-Bus so please be ready to board the bus when it arrives. The bus will occasionally arrive earlier than your scheduled pick up time so please be ready a few minutes earlier than the times given. All rides have a 30 minute pick up window so please be patient if our drivers are not arriving to you immediately since accidents, traffic, weather, and other situations can cause drivers to run late. Have your money ready to hand to the driver upon boarding the bus. Exact change is appreciated. Bills over $5.00 are discouraged (the driver may not have change for you) and more than ten (10) pennies (per ride) are not accepted.
Please wait for the bus in an area where you can see the bus and where the driver can see you. The driver will only wait 3 minutes for you to come out before continuing to the next customer.
We are not a taxi service so you may have to ride on the bus awhile to enable the driver to transport other passengers.
If the weather is bad, we will take the bus off the road. If Middletown Schools are closed due to poor weather conditions, we will NOT run. If Middletown Schools have a delay, we will begin with our 9:00AM rides (and occasionally later). When we are delayed or closed, it will be broadcast on radio station WPDH, 101.5 FM, and placed on our Town Website at www.townofwallkill.com.
If you are unable to keep your reservation, call the Office at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled pick up time to ensure that the driver receives the message canceling your ride for that day. PLEASE SEE THE "NO SHOW AND CANCELLATION POLICY."
Any changes to your ride must be done through the office and can only be accommodated if it does NOT interfere with the driver's schedule or route. Same day changes are permitted only as the schedule allows.

**No Show & Cancellation Policy**
Any customer accumulating three (3) "no shows" within one week (7 calendar days) will be taken off the schedule and not be allowed to ride the bus for one month. A "no show" is when a driver arrives to pick up a customer and the customer does not ride. Waving a driver on (to say that you are not going) will count as a "no show."
Any Customer accumulating six (6) "late cancellations" within three weeks (21 calendar days) will be taken off the schedule and not be allowed to ride the bus for two (2) months. A late cancellation is anyone who calls the office to cancel their ride between 4:45PM the business day prior to their ride and up to the time the driver arrives at their location. (if the driver arrives at your location and you do not ride it is considered a "no show").
Anyone canceling their ride prior to 4:45PM the business day before the scheduled ride, will not be penalized since we will be taking you off the next day's schedule and gives us the opportunity to schedule additional customer(s) in your time slot. Please give us as much notice as possible.
Anyone returning to the schedule after one of the above situations, and if the same scenario continues, that person will be removed from our service for six months.
