The
Town Clerk's office is the information center of local government.
Many duties are mandated by law, but many more go well beyond
those mandates as the Town Clerk and her staff serve as a major
source of information to all. As recording secretary for the Town
Board, she authors the minute books, the only official record
of the activities of the Town Government. The Town Clerk issues
state licenses and permits, including marriage, dog, hunting and
fishing, bingo, games of chance, peddlers, garbage haulers, and
handicapped parking. The office is the custodian of all Town records
and responsible for the records management program of the Town.
This includes coordinating requests for public information (FOIL)
within all Town Departments. The Town Clerk is the coordinator
for primary and general elections and oversees special Town elections
and permissive/mandatory referendums. Voter registration forms
and absentee ballot applications are always available. As Registrars
of Vital Statistics, the office maintains all birth and death
records within the community, issues birth and death certificates
and certified copies of those records to those records to those
individuals designated by law. Notary services are available on
a full-time basis. The office can be reached during regular business
hours and appointments can be made outside of regular posted hours
for certain licensing services.
