We are pleased to announce that the Town of Wallkill was selected as one of 22 communities across the State to receive $3M as part of the New York State’s Rising Community Reconstruction Program.
As many of you know, our Town was severely impacted by Hurricanes Irene and Lee and then by Super Storm Sandy. These events caused a disruption to the services that our Town provides to our residents. They also caused a financial burden on our Town, as we had to shoulder the cost of the repairs due to flooding.
Earlier this year, our dedicated Public Works Department under the leadership of Commissioner Lou Ingrassia Jr., began advocating for our Town to the Governor for financial assistance in response to these extraordinary events, and today the fruits of their labor have paid off for our community.
This funding will be used first to prepare a Reconstruction Plan for areas of our Town that were impacted, and then to assist in the implementation of some of the features developed in the plan. The Plan will develop innovative strategies for projects that can transform our Town and help ensure our economic vitality. The Town of Wallkill would like to thank everyone who joined us on May 20th for the Local Business Leaders Conference. It was a very productive morning and a step in the right direction to make the Town of Wallkill the cleanest, safest and most convenient area for shopping in the Hudson Valley. Today we were informally informed (not in writing) that the NYS DOT has agreed to take over the Connector Project between the Galleria Mall and Orange Plaza. The reason for this agreement stems from the shared interest of the Town of Wallkill and the New York State Department of Transportation to complete the project in a way that will alleviate traffic on route 211 in the Town of Wallkill. I would like to thank the New York State DOT for their efforts and commitment in getting this project done right. I would also like to thank the Elected Officials who were influential in supporting the town in this effort; Governor Andew Cuomo, Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, State Senator John Bonacic, Assemblywoman Annie Rabbit and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, and all of the Town of Wallkill Town Board members. This new agreement saves the Town of Wallkill taxpayers over $1 Million potential expense and ensures that the project will be built right. Once the project design is completed by the town it will be handed off to the State to construct. Upon completion it will be handed back to the town to maintain. “This is a home run for all sides, especially the taxpayers of the Town of Wallkill” stated Supervisor Dan Depew.
The Supervisors Office stands at the ready to be your liaison to the towns services.
